Arlene Barst: Making a Difference in Rye, New YorkArlene Barst , an RSVP member of The Volunteer Center of Westchester and Putnam Counties, New York, began her community service 15 years ago in The Bronx, New York, where she spent time feeding patients at a nursing home and a hospital. When she moved to New Rochelle, New York in 1999, Arlene continued her services at the United Hebrew Geriatric Center, helping to make the residents there as comfortable as possible. "I feed residents who can't feed themselves. I keep them company, wheel them around -- anything to make them happy,"

Senior Tsunami ForecastIt’s called the Senior Tsunami. Over 78 million Baby Boomers are now approaching retirement age. (The first of the Boomers are now receiving Social Security benefits). As a result, U.S. age demographics are shifting significantly. Seniors 65 and older will soon constitute 20 percent of the population. And it’s estimated that by the year 2020, 12 million older Americans will need long-term care.
