Green Zone

written by Dave Hager

It is a good film. I hope it does well so that people can reassess the meaning of “Support our Troops”.

The repubbies and especially the Bushista Neo-Cons are going to hate this film because it rubs their noses in the Iraqi conflict that has cost the lives of so many thousands of young American troops.

This gives new reason to pause and reflect on what ‘Support our Troops’ really means. here’s a hint. It starts by telling them the fu*king truth.

Based on the book ‘Imperial Life in the Emerald City: Inside Iraq’s Green Zone’ the film details the lies told about weapons of mass destruction.  In the end, we can see that “Weapons of Mass Destruction” were really Weapons of Mass Distraction … and that was the Neo-Con game plan all along.

Action packed and engaging, this is a film that takes the star and director of the last two ‘Bourne’ films and places them in a tight terse world of total reality. For guys from the long ago Saigon days, the scenes of the ‘civilian’ employees of the United States government sitting around luxury hotels and hanging out poolside with a cold one will indicate that the more things change the more they stay the same.

Brendan Gleason plays the CIA station chief in Baghdad has a great line. When asked by Damon’s character if the Pentagon intelligence officer and special forces and CIA weren’t all on the same side, he replies “Don’t be naïve”.

People ask me why the DIA didn’t replace the CIA and fulfill its mission. DIA was set up by Robert McNamara because he too thought that all American Forces were on the same aide and, therefore, should share joint intelligence information and missions. He didn’t understand that every military or quasi-military operation in the government is in competition for one thing…funding. That’s why the Army spent as much time spying on the Navy as it did the enemy in Nam…not to mention the Air Force who got way beyond the average for military intelligence funding.

But the best line is reserved for an Iraqi translator “…It is not for you to decide what happens here.” Guess he wasn’t told about the Neo-Conservative plan to control the country in order to control the oil.

It is a good film. I hope it does well so that people can reassess the meaning of “Support our Troops”.
