The original, performed by Nini Rosso in 1965, brought me to tears when I heard it on the radio in Japan at that time, and it does to this day. When I left Japan in ‘66 I thought I’d never hear it again, but here it is, for us all.
This is one of those rare pieces that makes just about anything else seem cheap and tawdry by comparison – there are many versions on YouTube, all of them exquisite. This version is as deep and powerful as any of them. Some of the richest nourishment for the soul you will find in This World, filling the heart with the light of Heaven. “Thanks be to G’d.”
